Together with Don and Paula Wright, Jerry and Carol Paliga, Sr. decided to sell their heating and air conditioning business and open the area’s first hometown pizzeria – Popolano’s. The demand for more than just pizza encouraged the founders to expand their menu to include many of their classic Italian family recipes. Classic Italian cuisine that fun for the whole family! |
Jerry Jr. has been with the restaurant since it opened in 1983. He and his wife Cyndy purchased the family business from the retiring Jerry Sr. and Carol Paliga. Jerry and Cyndy have continued the tradition of serving their patrons with an excellent choice of high quality foods in a friendly home-style atmosphere. Jerry and Cyndy own and manage the onsite affairs of Popolano’s. |
There is a large patio for outdoor dining during the summer months with heaters for the cooler spring and fall nights. The family tradition of great food in an enjoyable atmosphere continues with their expansion.

In 1983, after watching one of his son’s last high school football games, Jerry Paliga, Sr. and several other parents wanted to gather for a pizza and a pitcher of beer. It was then that Jerry realized there was no place to go in Lansing and how his hometown needed such a place for families to enjoy. 
In 2003, Jerry and Cyndy took a leap of faith and acquired an over one hundred year old historical building in downtown Chesterton. They’ve turned it from an old- fashioned ice cream parlor to a quaint restaurant full of old world charm including stained glass windows dating back to the Civil War era.
